26 Nov ’Tis the season to be healthy
Ask anyone what they love about the festive period, and eating will be high on their list, whether it’s a four-course meal in a five-star restaurant, brunch or a box of chocolates while watching a movie.
The last two weeks of December have become synonymous with overindulging, and for many people, the next fortnight revolves around family, friends and eating, before the New Year’s resolutions kick in.
But with that anticipation comes stress, because we know deep down it’s not healthy to gorge on several family-sized packets of crisps a day or devour every cupcake in sight. And although everybody looks forward to the celebrations, their excitement is clouded with worry that they won’t be able to say no to tempting treats, and prevent the inevitable weight gain and ill-effect on their general health.
Now, nutritionists say food doesn’t have to be the enemy at this time of year, and with a little effort and a few tweaks to our thinking, it can become our ally. Instead of letting food control us, we can choose what we put on our plates and even tackle some of our major challenges during this period.
